I have always been a creative person.  I went to a youth photography workshop at Philbrook Museum of Art and later won a local contest in Tulsa Oklahoma where I grew up.  The National Geographic subscription I had as a child was definitely a huge influence for me.  I love animals and exotic places and was fortunate to have traveled some with family and enjoy the adventure of travel.  Just the idea of seeing exotic creatures in exotic locations continues to fill me with excitement.  While I love the travel to exotic locations most of my work is local to my region of Iowa.  We have some beautiful big skies, large lakes and small woodlands that I spend a lot of time in photographing.  I have been an admirer of photography as art my whole life.

I began exploring still life photography during the Covid-19 lockdowns as a way to continue my growth and better understand composition and lighting.

Inspiration

Thomas Haynie is inspired to photograph natural spaces, nature and wildlife daily.  The beauty of afternoon light on a landscape, winter snow, the colors and patterns in feathers all make me want to go out and capture it and see it in large print. 

Techniques

Thomas Haynie currently uses digital camera equipment and software for the creative flexibility that is offered. Landscape and wildlife images generally have minimal editing but HDR and blending techniques may be used to create the desired final image.  Still life images are often blended from five or more images and edited in photoshop.

Thomas' photography has been a hobby until 2021 when he launched Thomas Haynie Photography.  His focus is on the art side of photography that he makes available for home and office.
